Veterinary radiologist Dr Nic Hayward visits Rescate Wildlife Centre to help with training in radiology and ultrasonography

Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center is the only wildlife rehabilitation veterinary hospital in Costa Rica, with a mission to rescue, rehabilitate and release injured animals back into the wild. The center also promotes environmental education and care of wildlife that cannot be released, and is also involved in the reproduction of endangered species.

Veterinary radiologist Dr Nic Hayward visited the center to experience the exceptional level of care provided by the dedicated team of staff at the main facility in Alajuela, as well as visiting the remote Bosque Escondido Wildlife Rescue release site.

Training and sharing of knowledge extended over the week, with sessions in radiography and interpretation of x-rays, as well as using ultrasonography to scan a range of wildlife, including sloths, raccoons, primates, and macaws.

The sessions were hugely rewarding, with the dedicated and committed veterinary team exchanging skills and knowledge in the management of wildlife cases, with Nic sharing how best to optimise equipment and interpret images.nvironmental education and care of wildlife that cannot be released, and is also involved in the reproduction of endangered species.
